About Naybr

A digital village square for Eugene, Oregon

Why We Built This

Social media promised to connect us, but instead it optimized for engagement, outrage, and ad revenue. We scroll past thousands of strangers while barely knowing the people next door.

Naybr is different. We're building the digital equivalent of a front porch; a place where you actually know the people you're talking to, because they live in your neighborhood.

Our Philosophy

Small by Design

We cap membership at 200 neighbors. This isn't a bug; it's the whole point. Dunbar's number suggests humans can maintain about 150 stable relationships. We're not trying to scale to millions. We're trying to build a community.

Trust, Not Followers

There are no follower counts, no viral posts, no influencers. Instead, we have a trust system based on real-world vouching. When your neighbor says someone is trustworthy, that means something.

No Algorithms

We don't manipulate what you see to maximize engagement. No rage-bait, no doom-scrolling, no "you might also like" rabbit holes. Just your neighbors, in chronological order.

Privacy First

We don't sell your data. We don't show ads. We don't track you across the web. Your conversations with neighbors stay between neighbors.

What Neighbors Do Here

Bulletin Board

Post needs, offers, recommendations, events, and items for sale. Need to borrow a ladder? Have extra tomatoes from your garden? This is the place.

Direct Messages

Private conversations with your neighbors. Coordinate pickups, make plans, or just check in on someone.

Chat Rooms

Group conversations around shared interests, gardening, parenting, local politics, book clubs, whatever brings neighbors together.

Trust Network

Vouch for neighbors you know and trust. Build a web of real relationships, not just connections.

Address Verification

To join Naybr, you need to prove you actually live here. We mail a postcard with a verification code to your address. It's old-school, but it works.

This keeps out the bots, the brands, and the bad actors. Everyone on Naybr is a real person who lives in Eugene.

Community Guidelines

Naybr is a space for real neighbors to connect, help each other, and build community. These guidelines help keep our neighborhood welcoming and safe for everyone.

Be a Good Neighbor

  • Be respectful. Treat others as you'd want to be treated. Disagreements happen, but keep it civil.
  • Be helpful. Share what you know, lend a hand when you can, and celebrate your neighbors' wins.
  • Be genuine. Use your real identity. This isn't a place for anonymous trolling or fake accounts.

Protect Privacy

  • Your info stays here. Don't share others' personal information, addresses, or photos without permission.
  • Respect boundaries. Not everyone wants to be best friends—and that's okay.
  • No stalking or harassment. If someone asks you to stop contacting them, stop.

What's Not Allowed

  • Hate speech or discrimination of any kind
  • Harassment, threats, or bullying
  • Spam, scams, or deceptive content
  • Illegal activities or solicitation
  • NSFW or explicit content
  • Commercial advertising (personal sales in appropriate channels are fine)
  • Impersonation of other people or organizations

Enforcement

  • Warnings for minor or first-time issues
  • Temporary suspension for repeated violations
  • Permanent removal for serious or ongoing violations
  • Immediate removal for illegal activity, threats, or harassment

We review all reports and make decisions based on context. If you see something concerning, use the feedback button or contact us directly.

The Spirit of Naybr

We're not trying to police every interaction. We trust you to be a decent human being. These guidelines exist to handle the rare cases where someone forgets how to be neighborly.

Remember: we're capped at 200 members. Being here is a privilege, not a right. Make it count by being someone your neighbors are glad to have around.
